Who We Are

Sue Bunting

General Manager

I would like to extend a warm hand of Welcome to you from all the educators and staff at Kardinia.
I am a mother of 2 daughters and 1 step son and understand that for many parents, leaving their children in someone else’s care can be a very stressful time. I want to work in partnership with you to make the transition into child care as stress free as possible. There may be some hesitation and even some tears however I, along with my team, will support you and your child to overcome any separation anxiety and become confident that Kardinia is a home away from home.
Our curriculum is guided by the Australia Early Years Learning Framework which informs and guides our educators to deliver high quality education and consistent care. The early childhood sector is highly regulated and Kardinia continues to achieve positive results for quality as we consistently reflect on established practices and implement new research.
We have an open door policy at Kardinia and encourage parents to visit and experience the programs we have on offer. We want you to feel comfortable to visit at any time. We need your input to ensure our programs are maintained at a high quality level. We will endeavour to seek your feedback so that we are able to continually evaluate and improve where necessary. Please feel free to contact me at anytime if you have any comments, questions or queries. I look forward to beginning this journey with you and your family.

Facilities

Our Babies Rooms are wonderful and magical places for babies and young children to play and be cared for. Babies join our nursery between the ages of 6 weeks and 2 years and we welcome breast-feeding mothers with comfortable spaces to feed and enjoy their baby. Special dietary needs are catered for and our open-door policy means phone 'check-ins' and visits are always welcome. Of course, our nurseries are equipped with modern and classic toys and all the state-of-the-art equipment to meet the developmental needs of babies and young children.
The move from Babies Rooms to our Toddler Rooms is an exciting time for everyone. In these room’s imagination is boundless. All types of art experiences are offered, as well as imaginary play, outdoor play, singing and dancing. Visually stimulating colours as well as our natural resources provide our children with a rich environment to learn and play. We are happy to assist with toilet training and place a focus on making all routine times fun times. You'll be amazed how quickly your child will develop and how quickly your walls will fill with mini-masterpieces
Our 3 year-old programs provide an opportunity for your child to socialise with an extended group of peers, and to participate in an educational program designed to enhance learning and overall development. Our activities are as endless as your child's imagination. Creative choices include construction and block-building, painting and drawing, play-doh and clay moulding. Imaginations are stimulated by puppetry, dramatic play and dress-ups, while puzzles, water play, music, movement, singing and drama are designed to extend your child. Of course, games, reading and storytelling provide welcome interactions as well of a range of incursions and excursions throughout the year.
Our 4 year-old programs focus on building confidence and self-esteem. We cater for each child's developmental needs with regard for maturation, cultural experiences, skills and interests. Almost all of the experiences of our three year old program are extended for our four year-olds, with a focus on pre-maths and pre-language skills. We practice creative problem-solving, show how to be independent, make choices and to model effective communication and co-operation. It's our aim to build interest in literacy and maths and, through the enthusiasm of the individual child, prepare for the transition to school.
The outdoor areas at Kardinia are designed to expose children to good old fashioned ‘risky’ play. When we use the word ‘risky’, we do not mean hazardous. We have strong policies and procedures in place to ensure hazards are removed. However, we believe that children need to be challenged and have the opportunity to face risk and learn how to manage it so that when they move into environments that are less supervised such as school; they have a strong foundation to keep themselves safe.
In our yards you will find wide open spaces for running, areas for climbing and hills for rolling. The children will be responsible for growing and caring for fruit and vegetables as well as our animals. Experiencing the natural environment and using your imagination are what your children will do when playing at Kardinia.
